WordPress Version Requirements for Support

Carl Hancock By Carl Hancock Published March 7, 2013

As we continue to work hard to support the new features and updates in WordPress, we sometimes have to leave older versions behind, and so after reading Joost de Valk’s great post entitled Why we don’t support old WordPress versions, we decided it was time to make our policy clear relating to WordPress version support.

The team at Rocketgenius supporting Gravity Forms will require either the latest major release of WordPress or the one previous to receive support. This means that since, as of this post, WordPress 3.5.1 is out, we will support WordPress 3.5, WordPress 3.5.1 as well as WordPress 3.4 and its point releases. If WordPress 3.5.2 is released, we will support that as well. We will not support WordPress 3.3 and older. When WordPress 3.6 is released, we will drop WordPress 3.4 from our acceptable support.

UPDATE August 2023. Now that the current WordPress release is 6.3, we no longer support WordPress versions before 6.2. When WordPress 6.4 is released, our minimum required WordPress version for support will be 6.3. Please be sure you stay up to date with WordPress releases.

While our minimum requirements for Gravity Forms may say that Gravity Forms works with older versions, troubleshooting submitted issues requires us to isolate as many potential sources for the problems as possible, and an unpatched version of WordPress can more often than not be a source of issues. An up-to-date version of WordPress and all plugins can rectify many issues users might be having with their websites.

With one-click updates to WordPress and its plugins within the core software, there is no longer a valid excuse for running older versions. For maximum compatibility, ease of troubleshooting, and personal website security, it is recommended that you always keep WordPress and all of your plugins and themes up to date.

Just a note for those that are wondering, this has always been our policy, but we felt as though we should put it in writing for all those current and future Gravity Forms customers.
