Gravity Forms 2.5 - Update

As we announced last week, Gravity Forms 2.5 beta 1 is coming soon. We’ve had a great response so far – lots of discussions, many questions, and much excitement!! (If you missed our official announcement, check it out here! Or keep reading for more info).

Today we are going to share a bit more about what you can expect from 2.5, as well as provide answers to some FAQs that keep arising…

What Can You Expect from Gravity Forms v2.5?

Gravity Forms v2.5 boasts a selection of new features and functionality – with a focus on accessibility, you will also find an updated form editor, improvements to usability, enhancements to form markup and styles, as well as beautiful aesthetics.

Here’s a sneak peek at just a few of the top features you can expect with 2.5…

  • Accessibility – Ethically and legally, creating accessible forms is becoming more and more essential. 2.5 provides the tools you need to easily create accessible forms for your users – helping you to better serve your audience and boost form submissions.
  • Form Editor – The form editor has been given a new look… and it’s beautiful! And that’s not all. Expect a fully revamped back-end user experience, with re-designed settings pages, easy-edit field settings, customizable form layouts, and much more.
  • Updates to Markup and Styles – v2.5 provides new and improved markup and styles, helping you to create stylish forms that convert.
  • Theme Integration – The Gravity Forms team has worked with a wide assortment of theme developers to help ensure that 2.5 works with all popular WordPress themes straight out of the box.

FAQs

We’ve loved receiving all your questions about 2.5. Below are some of the most popular inquiries, along with their answers, to help give you more insight into 2.5…

  • Does the new form editor use Gutenberg – and what if I have disabled the block editor?

The Gravity Forms editor does not use Gutenberg. But given WordPress commitment to Gutenberg, we have focused on providing a similar user experience that feels native to the WordPress environment.

  • Will the form editor have drag and drop column support?

Yes! Gravity Forms 2.5 supports up to 4 columns with a drag-and-drop layout editor.

  • Is there backward compatibility for existing websites?

Yes – existing forms will default to use the same markup they’ve always used (called legacy markup). This means you don’t need to worry about existing forms when you install 2.5. Newly created forms will use the new markup but can be updated to use the legacy markup if required.

  • Is there a change-log or feature log available to check out?

Not yet – but make sure you sign up to our beta mailing list so we can keep you updated.

  • I’m a developer – will I be able to test my plugins with the new version before beta comes out?

One of the main reasons we are releasing the beta is to allow developers to check their plugins. So, if you are an add-on developer, now is the time to get your add-ons, themes, or custom code ready for 2.5. We’ll also be releasing multiple betas, giving you plenty of time to test your plugins before the final release.
