We’re pleased to announce the release of the Gravity Forms Chained Selects 1.8.2. This update contains several updates, including…
- Updated CSV content-type check for the gform_chainedselects_import_file filter to support cases where the charset is part of the content-type header.
- Updated GF_Field_Dropbox::get_value_entry_detail() for compatibility with the change to GF_Field::get_value_entry_detail() in Gravity Forms 2.9.29.
Dropdowns that get smarter with every click
Long, unfiltered dropdown lists slow people down and lead to messy data. Chained Selects fixes that by making each dropdown react to the one before it, so by the time someone reaches the last field, they’re picking from a handful of relevant options instead of scrolling past forty.
Set it up in minutes with a CSV upload, or connect to a database or API so your choices stay current without ever touching the form again. Here are some potential use cases:
- Industry → Service Type → Specific Provider for a service directory
- Year → Make → Model for a dealership
- Category → Subcategory → Product for an online store
- State → City for location-based forms
However you use Chained Selects, fewer irrelevant options means faster completion for your users and cleaner data for you.
Key features of the Chained Selects Add-On
Once you’ve installed Chained Selects alongside Gravity Forms, you’ll get access to several benefits and features, including…
- User-friendly forms – Visitors experience a smoother process with fewer options to scroll through, as irrelevant choices are hidden.
- Fewer abandonment rates – Faster, more user-friendly forms encourage higher completion rates.
- Improved data accuracy – Displaying only relevant options helps prevent errors, such as selecting “Apple” as the brand and “Galaxy S23” as the model.
- Simplified form creation – Importing field choices or options via CSV files streamlines the process, especially for complex forms with numerous options.

Note: After updating, clear your site’s cache to ensure you’re running the latest version. We also recommend excluding pages that include Gravity Forms from caching and script optimization, as cached form pages can interfere with dynamic population, field validation, honeypot, and add-ons that rely on time-sensitive tokens.
Read our FAQ on Cache and Script Optimizer Issues for details and exclusion steps by host/plugin.
